Most wedding gifts are about the couple. A venue portrait is about the place — the building they married in, the pub where they met, the spot where he proposed. It works precisely because nobody else thinks to give it.
Which place to choose

The unglamorous places often work better than the beautiful ones. A watercolour of a specific terraced house or an ordinary pub means more to two people than a stately home does, because it is *theirs*.
What photo to send
This is where venue portraits differ from people portraits, and it is worth a minute of thought.
Get the whole building in
Cropped corners cannot be invented. If the roofline or an end wall is cut off, the artist has to guess, and guesses look wrong to anyone who knows the building.
Straight on, or a clean three-quarter angle
A straight elevation or a corner view showing two faces of the building both work. Extreme angles from below distort the proportions.
Daylight, ideally overcast
Hard midday sun throws half the façade into black shadow, and shadow hides the detail that makes a building recognisable. A flat grey day is genuinely better.
Watch what is in front
Parked cars, wheelie bins, scaffolding and crowds can usually be removed, but tell us — do not assume. If a tree hides a third of the frontage, that is harder, and worth asking about first.
You do not have to have taken it yourself
Plenty of people do not have a good photo of their own venue. A picture from the venue's own website, or a street-level map view, is often the clearest image available and is fine to send us as a reference. If you have a photo from the day itself with people in it, send that too — we can work from both.
Formats and sizes
Venue portraits come as a print, a canvas or framed ready to hang, from £17.95. Landscape suits wide buildings and most venues; portrait orientation suits tall, narrow frontages like a townhouse or a church tower. Tell us the names, the venue name and the date you would like beneath the artwork.

House portraits, for a different occasion
The same idea works for a home rather than a venue. A watercolour of a first house is a common housewarming gift, and a common leaving gift when someone sells up. From £9.99.
When to give one
- As a wedding present. Safe ground — it is not on the gift list and nobody else will bring one.

Common questions
Can you paint a venue from a photo off the internet?
We can work from any clear reference image of the building. Send whatever shows it best — your own photo, one from the venue's website, or a street-level view.
Can you remove cars or people from in front of the building?
Usually, yes. Say so in the Special Requests box. If something large is blocking the frontage, ask us before ordering.
Can you add names and a date?
Yes — names, the venue name and the date sit beneath the artwork. Nicknames work as well as full names.
Can you combine the venue with a photo of the couple?
Ask us. It depends on the images, and we would rather tell you honestly before you order than disappoint you after.
How long does it take?
Standard UK delivery is 4-6 working days on top of making it, faster on Express or Next Day. Ask for a preview if you want to approve the artwork first — worth doing on a building, since you will spot an inaccuracy we would not. See our delivery page.
